Meghan & Ryan | A New Year’s Eve Wedding Celebration

The New Year’s Eve wedding celebration of Meghan & Ryan

How did you two meet?
This question always trips us up and we laugh about it!

Ryan and I grew up in Haverhill, MA and attended school a year apart. That said, we did not know each other in high school. Many people (the best man/matron of honor, Meghan’s Aunt and even a miracle from Ryan’s late father ☺ ) take credit for introducing us. At the end of the day, Ryan reached out to me via good old Facebook in 2014 when I moved back to Haverhill from Northern VA. I said yes!

Why did you choose to get married at the location that you did?
We started our venue search along the New England coast line for this is where we spend most of our free time enjoying local eats and walking our dogs. Portland‘s charm and love for food drew us in. Once we stepped foot in The Westin Portland Harborview’s ballroom we were ready to sign. We were confident the foodie town and outstanding customer service at The Westin would be the ideal city to celebrate our wedding with friends & family from near and far!

What moment sticks out to you above all of the others?
Our 1st look, standing by my Mom’s side while Ryan and his mother danced, and the dual best man & matron of honor speech

Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with all of your free time?!
Great question! We will soon be on the hunt for a house however; we are going to take a break from planning for a bit to bask in the enjoyment of married life.

Megan & Andy | Elegance at the Barn at Flanagan Farm

The Flanagan Farm wedding celebration of Megan & Andy

How did you two meet?

We met our freshman year at Bates. Andy lived next to two of Megan’s friends, a few beer pong games and commons dinners later, Megan built up the courage to ask Andy to walk her home on her 19th birthday … 8 years later, we got married!

Why did you choose to get married at the location that you did?

My brother said it best in his officiant speech. Flanagan Farm embodied everything we wanted in our wedding – a space that could bring everyone together, into what feels like our home, for a wonderful celebration. Even though we live in California, we knew we had to get married in Maine… it’s the place we met, where we fell in love, and got engaged. It’s been our place throughout our entire love story.

Were there any happy surprises that happened at the wedding?

Katie and Sarah’s MOH speech was PERFECT! No real surprises but I couldn’t believe how witty and funny they were — especially Sarah who is usually more reserved was hilarious!

What moment sticks out to you above all of the others from the wedding?

SO MANY!

  • The first look was really special, which I knew it would be. I was so happy we did it just us two and had that moment of quiet.
  • The ceremony. For me (Megan) was very emotional and raw. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. To walk out, MARRIED, and feeling like I shared my feelings, promises, and future goals with Andy and everyone we love. We designed the entire ceremony ourselves –and with the help of our loved ones, found readings that resonated with us and passages that moved us. We were able to touch upon all the various aspects of our lives, and had representatives from each stage play a role.
  • There was a period of time — after the first look, before the ceremony, where Andy and I sat in the barn (me with my dress to my thighs, cooling off) and splitting a glass of wine. It was such a quiet moment — after the initial excitement/anxiety of the first look and I was SO HAPPY to just have that moment to ourselves.
  • The ceremony — truly amazing — the speakers, hearing andy’s vows. Michael’s speech… our parents advice to us… it was all so special, so personal. I couldn’t have imagined a more intimate way to start our lives together. Oh my goodness, when my brother asked us to look into the crowd of the people who came to support us… TOO much. I could hardly look I was getting so emotional.
  • Before our first look, Andy and I exchanged letters — one of the things he wrote was that I should be my authentic self — and not hold back. As you can probably tell (and watch, in hours of film!) I am an emotional person. It’s just who I am. One of the things that gave me a lot of anxiety before the wedding was how I was going to “maintain composure” and “be a good bride” on the day of the wedding — Andy’s letter reminded me that I need to give myself permission to be myself. And of all days, the one day that you shouldn’t hold back your true self, is your wedding day. So I probably cried a few more tears than I intended, but I also laughed a lot harder, smiled a lot wider, loved a lot deeper than I would have otherwise — I was no one but myself, and I have a loving husband who encourages me to do just that… something I will always be grateful for.

Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with all of your free time?!

Cry? Honestly, it was such an amazing experience. Getting back into the grove of real life is not easy. Maybe start a support group?

Ally & Charlie | A Romantic Cliffside Wedding

By | Videos, Weddings | No Comments

How did you two meet?
We met at the University of New Hampshire in Stoke Hall…Ally was a freshman and Charlie was a junior. We knew “of” each other, then realized we were in the same history lecture hall, so of course we became study partners. After dating for a short time we have been inseparable since!

Why did you choose to get married at the location that you did?
Charlie grew up in Kittery just a few miles south of the Cliff House, so the seacoast is in his blood. Ally grew up in Massachusetts but her family always travelled to the Wells, Maine area for vacations. Ally’s parents and grandparents would visit the Cliff House for anniversary weekends and special events, so Ally’s mom recommended we check out the newly renovated resort as a possible wedding venue. Since it was seaside and local, we knew we would like it, but were blown away by how amazing it is there now. We toured the Cliff House in hard hats and closed-toed shoes the first time and knew we needed to get married there. The ballroom tied with the breathtaking cliffs against the ocean made it our #1 choice.

Were there any happy surprises that happened at the wedding?
THE WEATHER! the crazy stormy morning turned out to be the most beautiful moody/foggy/classic Maine weather….the weather I crossed my fingers and dreamed of since day 1. I was so happy!! Other than that, we can’t think of any suprises…but seeing everything come together in one place; our cake (our chocolate pups), our guests holding our signature drinks, dancing to the band….the flowers! Everything that came together so beautifully was a very very happy feeling.

What moment sticks out to you above all of the others from the wedding?
Our first dance, first look, reading each other’s notes, and our vows.

Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with all of your free time?!
Living simply and relaxed…we will ski in the winter, read books, play with the pups, have fires, all the good cozy things but also adventure things. Also, learning 500 ways to eat rice and beans (just kidding but really it will be nice to save a bit of cash!)

Anna & Noah | A Laudholm Farm Celebration

How did you two meet?
Tinder!
Why did you choose to get married at the location that you did?
We wanted to be near the ocean, but still have a farm vibe.  Maine is a vacation place for many people but still has that hidden gem of a feel.  Plus Melanie our amazing wedding planner told us to visit Laudholm and thought it would be perfect for us!
Were there any happy surprises that happened at the wedding?
We were able to provide all our own tomatoes for the caterer to use in all our salads.  And my dress zipped! I wasn’t hungover the next morning! Noah was more handsome than I’ve ever seen him. We got a photo with all 10 grandchildren and my grandmother who means so much to me (all of us are NEVER in the same place at once). We both wrote our vows the morning of, and even though we wish we prepared more they were very honest and loving.
What moment sticks out to you above all of the others from the wedding?
Having an amazing dinner (we really love food) in a beautiful tent with over 100 people that I love so genuinely, when does that ever happen?
Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with all of your free time?!
No longer plan the details of a wedding and tend to our crazy farm! And enjoy lots of hot tea by our wood stove!

Mac & Jack | A Coastal Maine Celebration

By | Videos, Weddings | No Comments

How did you two meet?
Jack and I met in our high school statistics class. We had always had mutual friends, but never had a friendship of our own. This all changed on that fateful day when he walked into that classroom the first day of our Senior year and chose a seat directly in front of me.

We spent that semester constantly in trouble, as Jack spent most of his time turned around whispering across to my desk. I always thought he was so handsome, but considered him a pipe dream. Turns out he felt the same way 🙂

Flash forward to second semester; neither of us had any classes together, so we naturally grew apart…until our Senior Year Prom. Like I had mentioned, we had a group of mutual friends. This group decided it would be fun to all go to prom with each other as friends, so the boys asked the girls in adorable ways (I got asked through a Taylor Swift song that was retitled on an iPod “Will You Go to Prom with Me?”), but no, Jack is not the one who asked me. We both went with friends and had a great time all together tearing up the dance floor, taking silly photos, owning the night and feeling infinitely invisible.

However, as fate would have it, Jack’s Prom Date fell asleep at our table that night (she’d been up all night writing her senior paper), so when it came time to move the group over to our friend’s house for the after prom sleepover, Jack and I spent the first part of the night talking. And then the second part of the night, and then the rest of the night. We spent all night whispering about ourselves, our life dreams and our life fears. And well…here we are 🙂

Why did you choose to get married at the location that you did?
We chose to get married at my parents’ house on Southport Island not only because it is simply stunning, but because it is special to both Jack and I for several reasons. It is where we spent the first summer we got together, where we realized this was it. The real deal. It is where we would reunite during those 1.5 years apart – Jack went to University of Maine Orono at first, so I would fly back from Kentucky during breaks and Mom would make us delicious home cooked meals while we snuggled on the couch rotating who got to choose the movies 🙂 And it was in the same barn that all the wedding guests spent dancing the night away that Jack asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. And in that barn I said yes.

Were there any happy surprises that happened at the wedding?
Sam (“The Wedding”) being the musician to walk down the isle too, a groomsman, AND our Minister was all a surprise to our guests. His entire officiant speech was a complete surprise to Jack and I. It was hysterical and beautiful all wrapped into one 🙂

What moment sticks out to you above all of the others from the wedding?

  1. Jack completely loosing it as I walked out
  2. Our first dance – I didn’t realize I was crying until I felt the tears running down my cheeks
  3. All the camera angles I saw being captured! Me walking down the stairs, Adam capturing us walking in for our first dance, me getting my makeup done, us standing by the “best day ever” sign in the front yard with the bistro lights – all of it 🙂

Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with all of your free time?!
We will be spending this next week enjoying each other’s company with my family up in Maine, at the same house we fell in love, the same house where he asked me to marry him, and the same house we vowed the rest of our lives to each other.

Alexandra & Adam | A Picturesque Portland Celebration

How did you two meet?
From two of our friends randomly meeting at Beacon Hill Pub in 2009. We partied through the whole rest of the weekend and were best friends immediately. Over time, we became more than that.

Why did you choose to get married at the location that you did?
The Eastern Promenade is so special to us for many reasons – it’s the location of our first serious “talk” about our future together and the family and values we wanted to instill in our children. Maine is our favorite place in the world, and the place that we come to for respite out of the city. To us, it’s truly “Vacationland,” but also feels like Home.

Were there any happy surprises that happened?
Looking back on it, I will forever fondly remember being stuck in an elevator for 30 minutes on my wedding day with two of my most FAVORITE vendors! I cannot believe that you & Courtney were able to keep me calm. Just goes to show you, be sure to absolutely ADORE someone before you hire them for such a special day! You never know what kind of pickle you might find yourself in!

What moment sticks out to you above all of the others?
Reading my vows to Adam and watching Adam’s grandpa deliver our ceremony. We wanted it to feel light and happy, and I think we delivered. Our whole day was about family – our bridal party was filled with our sisters and brothers, and the patriarch officiated. We wanted to be sure that everyone on the Eastern Promenade felt the Love. I consider it a success.

Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with all of your free time?!Adam & I are headed to surf right now on Higgins Beach! At the end of August we are going to the Amalfi Coast for the real honeymoon: Sorrento, Capri, Positano & Rome! And then just back to the grind in Boston.. and eight more weddings ahead of us this summer! It’s so exciting – we can’t WAIT to be wedding guests!!

Kaela & Ryan | An Intimate Maine Elopement

The intimate Maine elopement of Kaela & Ryan

How did you two meet?
Ryan saw me at the gym and just had to meet me so he asked his brother who I was, found me on Facebook and messaged me!

Why did you choose to get married at the location that you did?
We love Wells! We’ve been vacationing there for the past four years together and I have vacationed there my whole life. We went to Laudholm one weekend in January to check it out before our weekend getaway in Portland and then Ryan proposed! After that we knew we wanted to get married there! We love that we can come back to the spot where those two special moments in our life happened.

Were there any happy surprises that happened?
Ryan surprised me with beautiful diamond earrings, my dad brought me some pretty peonies and my mom made me “something blue” out of an old dress we both wore with my new initials and some pendants from my childhood.

What moment sticks out to you above all of the others?
Eating ice cream and our vows. Sorry! Can’t pick just one!

Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with all of your free time?!
Eat a lot more ice cream! We are picking up a new hobby! We’re going to start hiking new trails around us each weekend to spend some quality time together unplugged!
