Ski bums tend to have a few characteristics that go with the lifestyle. Generally, they are a laid-back bunch. They know how to have a good time, and they are always looking for a reason to celebrate (Full moon? Hooray! Powder day? First round is on me!) Justin & Caity combined their love for the mountains with their love for each other in a celebration that rang loud through the Sunday River Valley.
Caity grew up skiing at Sunday River, so having a slopeside ceremony overlooking an important piece of her past seemed all too fitting. In true ski bum fashion, she and her father skied into the ceremony site surrounded by friends, family, & the occasional curious stranger. My personal favorite touch to the ceremony: Each bridesmaid was sporting a vibrant purple North Face jacket, as Marvin Gaye’s Pretty Purple Snowflakes rang over the speakers. There could not have been a more perfect song to set the tone of the entire day. The ceremony was short & sweet, officiated by a close family friend. After the “Will you’s” & “I Do’s,” family & friends joined in for a few runs with the new Mr. & Mrs. Jones– In true Ski Bum fashion.
The reception took place at the beautiful Bethel Inn Resort in the heart of downtown Bethel. After taking a horse drawn sleigh ride around the property, Caity & Justin were introduced to a high-energy reception that only seemed to pick up speed as the night progressed. They immediately made me feel like a part of the family, which is a true sign of the love, support, and kindness that these families embody. I didn’t want to pack up my gear at the end of the night– the party was still alive, electric, and showed no signs of stopping! On my way out, Caity & Justin corralled me, one on each arm, and escorted me to the bar. They would not be happy until I had a chance to be a guest, not a vendor, at their celebration. I got a Bud Light & toasted the new Mr. & Mrs. Jones. In true Ski Bum fashion.
