The coastal Maine celebration of Mackenzie & Jack

How did you two meet?
Jack and I met in our high school statistics class. We had always had mutual friends, but never had a friendship of our own. This all changed on that fateful day when he walked into that classroom the first day of our Senior year and chose a seat directly in front of me.

We spent that semester constantly in trouble, as Jack spent most of his time turned around whispering across to my desk. I always thought he was so handsome, but considered him a pipe dream. Turns out he felt the same way 🙂

Flash forward to second semester; neither of us had any classes together, so we naturally grew apart…until our Senior Year Prom. Like I had mentioned, we had a group of mutual friends. This group decided it would be fun to all go to prom with each other as friends, so the boys asked the girls in adorable ways (I got asked through a Taylor Swift song that was retitled on an iPod “Will You Go to Prom with Me?”), but no, Jack is not the one who asked me. We both went with friends and had a great time all together tearing up the dance floor, taking silly photos, owning the night and feeling infinitely invisible.

However, as fate would have it, Jack’s Prom Date fell asleep at our table that night (she’d been up all night writing her senior paper), so when it came time to move the group over to our friend’s house for the after prom sleepover, Jack and I spent the first part of the night talking. And then the second part of the night, and then the rest of the night. We spent all night whispering about ourselves, our life dreams and our life fears. And well…here we are 🙂

Why did you choose to get married at the location that you did?
We chose to get married at my parents’ house on Southport Island not only because it is simply stunning, but because it is special to both Jack and I for several reasons. It is where we spent the first summer we got together, where we realized this was it. The real deal. It is where we would reunite during those 1.5 years apart – Jack went to University of Maine Orono at first, so I would fly back from Kentucky during breaks and Mom would make us delicious home cooked meals while we snuggled on the couch rotating who got to choose the movies 🙂 And it was in the same barn that all the wedding guests spent dancing the night away that Jack asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. And in that barn I said yes.

Were there any happy surprises that happened at the wedding?
Sam (“The Wedding”) being the musician to walk down the isle too, a groomsman, AND our Minister was all a surprise to our guests. His entire officiant speech was a complete surprise to Jack and I. It was hysterical and beautiful all wrapped into one 🙂

What moment sticks out to you above all of the others from the wedding?

  1. Jack completely loosing it as I walked out
  2. Our first dance – I didn’t realize I was crying until I felt the tears running down my cheeks
  3. All the camera angles I saw being captured! Me walking down the stairs, Adam capturing us walking in for our first dance, me getting my makeup done, us standing by the “best day ever” sign in the front yard with the bistro lights – all of it 🙂

Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with all of your free time?!
We will be spending this next week enjoying each other’s company with my family up in Maine, at the same house we fell in love, the same house where he asked me to marry him, and the same house we vowed the rest of our lives to each other.
